Ten on Tuesday

This weeks topic is “10 Underrated Movies.” This was a tough one for me because even though I watch quite a few movies, I tend to not remember them for the most part. It happens with books too. It’s that memory thing I mentioned in last weeks Ten on Tuesday list. But, here is the list that I came up with…

1. V for Vendetta - A shadowy freedom fighter known only as “V” uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally.

2. Serenity - a movie that tied up some loose ends from the TV series Firefly, which I loved but was canceled in its first season without being given a fair chance.

3. A History of Violence - A mild-mannered man becomes a local hero through an act of violence, which sets off repercussions that will shake his family to its very core.

4. Four Brothers - Four adopted brothers come to avenge their mother’s death in what appears to be a random killing in a grocery store robbery.

5. Frequency - An accidental cross-time radio link connects father and son across 30 years. The son tries to save his father’s life, but then must fix the consequences.

6. Phone Booth - Stuart Shepard finds himself trapped in a phone booth, pinned down by an extortionist’s sniper rifle.

7. The Guardian - A high school swim champion with a troubled past enrolls in the U.S. Coast Guard’s “A” School, where legendary rescue swimmer Ben Randall teaches him some hard lessons about loss, love, and self-sacrifice.

8. Dreamer - Cale Crane catalyzes the rescue and rehabilitation of Sonador, a race horse with a broken leg.

9. The Legend of Bagger Vance - A down-and-out golfer attempts to recover his game and his life with help from a mystical caddy.

10. Unbreakable - A suspense thriller with supernatural overtones that revolves around a man who learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident.

I have had Firefly and Serenity in my Blockbuster queue for eons. I guess I better move them to the top and find out what all the hubbub is. My daughter loves them too and has gone on and on about how good they are.

I thought “A History of Violence” was a great movie. William Hurt was pure evil!
