I finished this yarn up a few weeks ago but I am behind in my spinning posts so I’m just getting around to blogging about it.

This is the second time I have spun Crosspatch Creations and I just love spinning this stuff! It’s nice to just spin and not strive for consistency like I usually do. Instead,  I realize I’m not going to spin “perfect” yarn and enjoy the spinning, the feel of the bumps and nubs slipping through my fingers. It’s wonderful. And it makes wonderful yarn too.

This is what I am working on now. It is the Alpaca and wool blend I picked up at this years CTS&W. I loved the mix of red and brown together and couldn’t wait to start on this. It does have a lot of vm in it though that I didn’t see when I bought it and that has taken a lot of the fun out of spinning it. It’s not much fun to have to stop spinning every minute or so to pick stuff out. I will finish it, but it won’t be soon enough for me.

I joined the Nutmeg Spinners Guild and went to my first meeting on Saturday. The meeting was on creating balanced plied yarns and this is the result of my time at the meeting.

It is a 3 ply and I only ended up with about 50 or 60 yards but I like how it came out and will find a use for it sooner or later. I drove up with Marcia and had a fun day, although she kept making me eat the delicious cookies she made and I think I gained about 5 pounds.

Hope you had a great weekend!

Spinning and Reading

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

I sat down at my spinning wheel this past weekend. It has been a long time and boy am I rusty! I threw away the first ounce or so that I spun because it was really bad and then switched to my plying head and started over with the intention of leaving them as singles.

This is the fiber I got a couple of weeks ago in Cambridge. I am not enjoying this particular Romney blend at all. Some of that reason could be that it has been a good long time since I have spun and this probably wasn’t a good choice to start off with. But another reason is that my hands look like this after handling it…Yuck.

I finished two books recently. The first was The Third Angel by Alice Hoffman. I kept thinking about not finishing this one, but then thought it was going to get better. It didn’t and then I was done. I need to get over the thing I have with not finishing books that I am not enjoying. The second book was The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. I was pretty unsure of this book before I started it because the story is told in a series of letters, which I thought might be tedious and confusing, but it wasn’t and I ended up really enjoying it. I was sad when I finished it and that always means I liked it a lot. Yesterday, when I was waiting for an oil change and to have my snow tires removed (Yay! good riddance snow tires), I started What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami. I don’t usually read many non-fiction books but the title of this one piqued my interest, plus it’s about running, which is enough for me. Mr. Murakami is a long distance runner who started running in his 30’s after giving up a 3 pack a day cigarette habit and I am enjoying his memoir so far. It’s a small book so I need to get my next book picked out soon. Any suggestions for something you just finished that was wonderful?
