I made this sweater smaller than I usually would because of the cotton yarn I was using and the stretching issues I have had in the past with cotton yarn. When I tried it on after seaming it up, it was snug enough that I thought I had made a mistake in the sizing. After wearing it for a few hours at CT S&W last weekend, it had stretched enough that I was no longer concerned that it was too small.

Shine Worsted was a pleasure to work with. It’s a very slippery yarn and the Addi’s I started with had to be switched out to a needle with more grip to them, which for me is my Denise Needles. As I expected it to be, a long worsted weight cotton sweater is heavy. I noticed as I was wearing it that the weight made it pull away from my shoulders a little bit. You can see it in some of the pictures. I don’t think it will be a big problem, but I haven’t worn it enough yet to know for sure. I am going to stick it in the dryer for a bit after the next wash and I think that will help. Isn’t it funny how you can go from thinking something is too small to sticking it in the dryer? I really like the sweater and I’m betting I get a lot of use from it during the warmer months. And even though it’s a bit heavy, it didn’t seem to be overly warm.

The pattern has you pick up and knit the front and neck edges with the same size needle as is used on the body of the sweater. I had an issue with the back of the neck band flipping outwards quite a bit on my first try and thanks to the suggestions I got here, when I ripped and reknit it with a smaller size needle it looked much better. I think using a needle 2 sizes smaller would have been ideal but I didn’t have one in the size I needed that was long enough.

Did I mention I really like this sweater?

Happy Friday and have a good weekend!

ETA: I am having picture issues so they aren’t clickable to make them bigger right now until I can figure out what is wrong. I hope to have it fixed soon!

I finished weaving in the ends of the Vogue cardigan yesterday and then went shopping for buttons. Last night I got the buttons sewed on and it’s blocking now. I’m not sure if I like it or not. It was a little snug when I tried it on before blocking and not very flattering. Hopefully that will change when it’s dry. Maybe I should have made the bigger size. The last cotton sweater I made grows a lot when I wear it and so I went smaller with this one to compensate for that. It remains to be seen if this was a good idea or not. Either way I’ll get some pictures of it on when the sun comes back out and it dries. It’s wet and damp here right now, so it’s not drying very fast.

I finished up the No-Purl Monkey socks over the weekend.

This was my first time using Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn even though it  has been in my stash a long time. I really liked it a lot and look forward to using it again. Luckily I have a couple more skeins in the stash waiting for when the time is right. It is so soft!

Other than a sock yarn square I started last night, I have nothing else on the needles right now. I am betting that won’t last very long.

Happy Wednesday!

Help! Neck Band Flipping Out

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Do you know what is causing my neck band to flip outward like this?

neck-band-flipping-out

The front edges are not flipping like that, just the neck. I picked up 3 out of 4 stitches on the sides and 1 for 1 across the neck with the same size needle as was used on the sweater. I want to rip it out and do it over but I can’t find any information on why it is doing it so that I can fix it. I really hope someone out there knows why this is happening!

Thanks!

I finished up the cardigan fronts days ago and I have managed to sew up one shoulder seam since then. I am never fond of the sewing up part. My goal for this week is to stop procrastinating and finish the sweater already.

While I was procrastinating, I made a sock yarn square. I haven’t made one in a while and rather enjoyed it. No goals on this project. I make squares when the mood strikes me and someday I’ll have enough of them to make a really cool blanket.

I finished up the gussets of the no-purl monkey socks but didn’t get much further than that. I’ll spare you yet another picture of them 1 inch bigger. You’re welcome.

We also won’t talk about the bathroom progress this past week. Michael is on vacation next week though so I have a feeling things are going to move ahead quite a bit faster next week than they have been.

Happy hump day!

I didn’t make either of last weeks goals but I wasn’t too far off. I am this close to finishing up the Vogue cardigan fronts. I hope to finish this sweater up in the next week.

And while I made it to the gussets of the No-Purl Monkeys, I didn’t get the decreases done. Ah well. This week I’ll shoot for finishing up the gussets and getting half the feet done. We’ll see how that goes. To be honest, if I am able to finish up my cardigan, I’ll be happy.

In the bathroom renovation news, Michael redid the wiring and adding the wiring for an overhead light and another outlet. Before he was an IT person, he was an electrician and that comes in really handy with fixing up a house. We also picked out the tile and bought the 1/4″ plywood to cover the subfloor, which isn’t in the greatest shape after removing the tile. The plywood is going down this weekend.

We got this lovely little surprise in the garage ceiling on Sunday.

new-leak

This happens to be right under the other bathroom upstairs. The one we are *not* working on of course! This will be the third leak in this house in the 4 years we have lived here. Luckily 2 of the 3 leaks only ruined the garage ceiling. No other house I have lived in has had leaks like this. I’ve never been so scared of plumbing.

Happy Wednesday! And I hope you didn’t fall for any practical jokes today! I’ve been safe so far, but it’s early still.
